Stay Classy, Lincoln County!

From the “only in North Carolina” file, 30-year-old Richard Peterson had a meeting with his probation officer, but he didn’t show up. Instead, his probation officer turned on the TV, and was stunned to see his missing charge bragging about a one night stand with a stripper on “The Jerry Springer Show”. Peterson’s stunt earned him three days in jail, and presumably, a spot in the dumb criminals Hall of Fame. WRAL News has more information, courtesy of The Gaston Gazette.

Mike Celizic: CBS Wrong With Tebow Ad

Mike Celizic of NBCSports.com has an interesting post on CBS’s decision to accept anti-abortion advertising from conservative evangelical group Focus On The Family featuring University of Florida football star Tim Tebow. He’s dead on when he says that the only reason CBS is taking this ad is that the market is soft for advertising in general and for 30-second spots that cost two and a half million dollars in particular. Unfortunately, there’s really no downside for CBS – who’s not going to watch the Super Bowl because of one commercial? Still, I wish the Good Without God folks or the Atheist Bus Campaign could afford to pay for a rejoinder ad. Actually, what I really wish is that CBS could keep political and religious advertising off the air during an event that has nothing to do with either.

This Week on “The Biggest Loser”

Just when I begin to think that my perception of Ron as the “mastermind” of this season is off-base, tonight’s episode confirms that the Brown team is really running this game. Tara may still win this thing, but with Mike and Ron both still in the house, if she slips below the yellow line, it’s over. Next week should be an awesome episode.

Biggest Loser Catch-Up

So, I’ve missed posting on the last few weeks of Biggest Loser. While I watch this week’s episode, I figured I would think about the last few weeks and catch up. Three weeks ago, Nicole came back to campus and went right back home, but not before Ron felt betrayed by the Tongan twins. The rhetoric between Blue and Brown got heated, but ultimately, it didn’t matter because… The week after that, Laura was given the sole vote at elimination by “winning” a temptation challenge, and chose to send Sione home. If you had told me Sione was going home before his cousin, you could have knocked me over with a feather. Last week, Laura went home after suffering a heartbreaking sports injury. Despite his image as the master game runner, Ron proved to be loyal to Kristin, who he voted to keep on campus up against a wounded Laura, who most assuredly would have remained below the yellow line for the remainder of her time on campus. That’s a very quick catch-up, now back to watching the current episode.

The Week’s “The Biggest Loser”

So just when I think I’ve gotten Ron pegged as the mastermind of the Blue Team who schemes without actually pulling his own weight (pun intended), he shows up big and wins immunity at the weigh-in. The “pop challenge” this week was a half marathon for a $10,000 prize, with an interesting twist – contestants could eat cookies and penalize other contestants. Only one contestant chose to do so, with simultaneously baffling and hilarious results. The Blue Team is down to only three players, with no sign of things improving. I was wrong about Tara pulling a huge number this week, but I still think she is the favorite in this competition – they even got her to do the product pimp this week instead of Bob. Finally, the Jillian / Cousins spat is the biggest thing since Fiddy and Ja Rule had beef. All in all, I’m enjoying this season.

This Week’s “The Biggest Loser”

So, Ron continues to run the Blue Team, even though he is by far their weakest player. I think I’ve figured him out – his plan is to stay in the game as long as possible, ensuring that the Blue Team continues to lose challenges and that his son Mike stays safe on the Black Team. The Black Team tried their hardest to shoot themselves in the foot, but to be honest, I don’t see the Blue Team as it is currently configured winning any challenges, and I think the Black Team knows it. Could Laura and Tara have been any more blatant in throwing this week’s weigh-in? I wonder why they don’t show the film of them waterloading, because I know it’s happening. Tara is going to put up a huge number this week.

Thoughts on this week’s “The Biggest Loser: Couples”

The “twist” on this week’s episode(s) was that the teams were shuffled. Through what must have been an intervention of the Reality Show Gods, almost every player ended up having to switch trainers, which caused much wailing and gnashing of teeth, and the rending of garments, etc. Ron and Mike ended up on different teams, meaning that the father and son pair I’ve come to enjoy watching so much are now technically competing against one another. Speaking of Ron, apparently, the Blue team has forgotten they are actually playing a game. As much as I like Ron, keeping him was a suicidal move. As long as he stays on the ranch, the Blue team is going to find itself sending someone home every week.

Also, not that we didn’t already know this, but Bob Harper is a class A product shill. I’m going to enjoy some frozen vegetables now, and wash it down with some protein powder and water.

This Week’s “The Biggest Loser”

Mike and Ron are quickly becoming my favorite contestants on this season of “The Biggest Loser”. Ron’s body is betraying him at every turn – bad knees made it impossible for him to do this week’s last chance workout, but these two put their heads down and work hard, plus they are some of the more outspoken contestants. The yellow team of Mandi and Aubrey seems to have become the “stealth” team, and they may stay under the radar long enough to both end up going to the final episode – their weekly numbers keep them consistently above the yellow line, and they don’t seem to have the targets on their back that a Tara or Dane might have. I’m not going to spoil who went home this week, but what was up with the peace signs on the vote cards?

CSI:Miami Just Jumped The Shark

I’m willing to suspend disbelief for a lot of things, but you are insulting my intelligence when you tell me that you’re going to get Puff Daddy to play a lawyer.
